Independent cat rescuer and provider of forever homes for a LONG time for a few 'normals', but mostly special needs cats. In my 'spare' time I like to garden, read and crochet (mostly blankies for my own furkids, the furkids of friends and shelter cats).

Why did you join the site?
Cat rescue needs a place where everyone associated with rescue can come together for whatever need we may have. There are hundreds of groups, forums, bulletin boards and email groupings circulating and in order to read and/or post we are now spending as much time doing this as we are trying to save lives.

Well Doreen - of course!
Now you can tell us a little about your cat (s)
Too many to tell about - NoFeeties and her sister Precious and brother Remington are shelter pulls from the back room of a Dallas shelter. Precious is normal - HA!, Remington has three legs and NoFeeties has shortened back legs and no rear feet. Dallas is rear paralzyed with her back legs stiff straight out along the right side of her body. Kaleb (normal) and brother Kieffer (no rear legs or rear feet) also were awaiting death in a backroom shelter in Dallas. I got a call from a shelter walker who peeped thru a window she wasn't supposed to and saw them - begging me to please take Kieffer. No way I could leave Kaleb who was trying so hard to protect his brother. Sweetie and Petey were two five week old black kittens brought to a vet for pts after small boys poked their eyes out with sticks. Vet was going to do it but a friend of mine said wait, let me call someone. Vet was so amazed that someone would take them that he vetted them and neutered them for free. Keuda and his angel sibs Konner and Kayla were a breeder's mistake - all deaf, all to die. Spanky Sullivan is blind in one eye, has one deformed bent leg with unusable foot. Stinkie and Hopper Chopper have cerebellar hypoplasia. RabbitRabbit came to us from Turkey where she got caught in a leg trap and chewed off her front paws to escape. Vet tried to save her front legs, but couldn't - she has one leg that ends just below the elbow and the other is amputated at the shoulder. And these are just a few of our babies. There have been many more over the years with different disabilities. While we may look differently, move differently, we all enjoy life, give love and want love.
As a new member of this group I would like to add my sympathy for your lose. And that I am one who completely understands how you feel and share those same feelings. The above picture is of Lobo who was my absolute best friend. I got Lobo when he was about a year old who never got the love & attention any animal deserves and was mistreated by kids who lived in the RV park he came from. That dog kept me in sight at all times when there was another person anywhere near me. He was gentle at all times, but for some reason back in 2004, a farm worker who also lived just a few trailers down from me, shot Lobo. I had let him out and he barked to let me know he wanted in. As soon as he came in he laid down on the kitchen floor and that's when I realized something was wrong. He died in less than 5 minutes. I only pass this story on to a few people, like yourself, to let you know that even after 4-1/2 yrs. I still miss and cry for him. To be honest I prefer the company of all my pets to most people I know and have known. My close friends are people who share the same love for animals.
